My Journey: 10/24/12

Posted: October 24, 2012 in My Fitness Journey

I have fluctuated with my weight since I can remember – up and down, up and down. It all depended on what time of year it was and the sport I was playing throughout my high school career when it came to my body. After college, it was a struggle to stay motivated. I would be great at hitting the gym one year, then horrible the next.

Today (or 31 months ago), I decided it was an off year when I found out I was pregnant with my son. I thought I could eat what I wanted because, hey, I was pregnant, and that’s what everyone does. I didn’t realize the reprecussions to my decision until after I had him and realized that the weight wasn’t just melting off from breast feeding like you hear about from other people. The week after I had my son, I stepped on the scale and I was at 190 lbs! (pre pregnancy I was 145 lbs) I’m pretty sure I cried, and I can’t blame it completely on my hormones!

This is a picture of me and my family, my son was 5 weeks old at the time…

I still have room for improvement from where I am now (pictures will come in a little bit), but it was a serious “Wow” moment for me. As soon as the doctor cleared me for working out (the week after this photo was taken), I was determined to get the weight off. I joined the gym and began taking spin classes and training for a half marathon in October 2011. Below is a picture of me in August 2011. This is months after, and I was STILL struggling with my weight. It was definitely not coming off like it used to!

I am a working mom and wife. So, finding time to work out was a struggle. I am very fortunate to have an extremely supportive husband who was wonderful with letting me “out” after work to hit the gym. I am pretty sure he’s border lining saint hood with the amount of support he’s given me while I (and in the end him as well) tried weight watchers, my fitness pal, vegetarian diet which led into a vegan diet and with the persistance of my trainer, I am now onto a Paleo/Primal diet. 6 weeks ago, I started at a new gym, Synergy Fitness. This is probably the best money I have spent on a group fitness program. It is very similar to the CrossFit program (if you’re familiar with it) – strength and cardio training. I am definitely seeing a major difference in my body since joining. Below, are pictures of myself that I took today (10/24/12).

As part of my goal to stay focused on getting fit and living a healthy lifestyle, I have decided to write this blog. Below are some of my goals (starting tomorrow!):

  1. Journal my food and work outs every day (and post each day to this blog site) and…
  2. Take pictures of the awesome Paleo Meals I cook up each day (if it is blog worthy)
  3. Post progress pictures every Sunday starting this Sunday – I know it will only be a few days away from this post, but I need to start somewhere! What could it hurt?

What I will not do is step on a scale. My goal is to LOOK my best without worrying about what my number is! My focus now is to get ripped! My husband and I plan on having a second child (if fate allows that to happen!), and I’d like to be fit before my pregnancy in order to make it easier to lose the baby weight afterwards and getting ripped again! 🙂

This blog is in no way an expert’s opinion. I am not a trainer or fitness expert. This is just my way of holding myself accountable for my goals by telling the world!
